FAQ

Why Choose Us

At Couples Therapy Niagara, we prioritize creating a safe and supportive environment for you and your partner. Our experienced therapists are dedicated to helping you navigate challenges and strengthen your relationship through effective communication and understanding. We believe in personalized approaches tailored to your unique needs, ensuring that you both feel heard and valued throughout the process.

How Does it Work?

Our approach to couples therapy tends to work on two levels: top-down (thinking, insight, problem-solving) and bottom-up (implicit, emotional and physiological experiences).

This means that sometimes your therapist will work on stabilizing your relational dynamics through exercises, new boundaries and communication skills. While other times the work may be focused on attuning to what is happening in each person before external behaviours take place. The goal of both strategies is to slow things down enough so that both partners can make new choices in situations rather than impulsive, reactive behaviours that aren't actually getting them what they need.

How do we Start

You can begin by reaching out via email or by booking a consultation call or initial session with one of our therapists.

The first session is typically held together as a couple, followed by one individual session with each partner.

After these initial meetings, we return to joint sessions, continuing the work together with a deeper, more nuanced understanding of each partner and the relationship between you.

How long does it take?

Many couples begin to notice meaningful shifts within the first 8–12 sessions, with deeper and more lasting change unfolding over the following months.

Ideally, sessions take place weekly or biweekly at the outset, allowing the work to build with continuity and momentum from one session to the next.

Billing and Insurance

Payment for sessions is due at the time of your appointment. After each session, you will receive a detailed receipt that you can submit directly to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

If needed, we are able to list the insurance policy holder as the primary client on receipts for reimbursement purposes—please let us know in advance so we can ensure your documentation is completed accordingly.

We recommend that you contact your insurance company in advance to confirm whether your policy covers psychotherapy services provided by a registered clinician.
